AMA INSTITUTE / INSTITUTO AMA - BRAGANÇA
The AMA Institute is located in Braganca, three hours from Belém at the mouth of the Amazon. It is in a beautiful location between river Caete and the Atlantic Ocean and was created to help alleviate poverty and provide education in an extremely poor and deprived area.
AmaZonArt has been involved in the project for over 4 years, donating a number of scores and also lending music instruments. AmaZonArt has also been bringing teachers from different cities in Brazil and Europe, preparing workshops, organising concerts in the area and training the students from the institute to teach others in the future.
The institute is growing slowly but it still needs help.
Mr. Ari, who created the Ama Institute, also created the "Rabeca Project" as part of the institute, in partnership with AmaZonArt. He makes this innovative instrument using the natural materials that the Amazon offers and gives them to extremely poor children in order to inspire them musically, giving them an opportunity to develop a career.
He built a workshop to produce these instruments. The tools are very simple and rustic.
We need to raise money to buy more tools and materials to help build these instruments. As well as providing the instruments he tries to involve children and people get into musical projects.
We also need money to restore the rooms of the institute that are in poor condition and help restore the library and the bathrooms.
We need to raise £30,000 to help the institute with the restoration of the buildings and maintain the Rabeca project.
